Bowling to Give Back A Smile

They are at it again. This past weekend my staff members, Yvonne, Val and Angela participated in a bowling tournament to raise fund for "Give back a Smile". They recruited family and friends to participate in the tournament.

Give Back a Smile was the brain child of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Give Back a Smile's mission is to raise awareness of domestic violence, allow AACD members to give back to their community and change a life by providing cosmetic dentistry at no cost to the survivors of domestic violence.

October is the official "Give back a Smile" month. Restore a life, restore a smile. For more information on the Give Back a Smile program or the AACD and its members , please visit http://www.aacd.com/.

Our Deepest Sympathy

We are Mourning the loss of our dental family member, Autumn; we are keeping her immediate family in our hearts and prayers. Our dental family will miss her warm and inviting smile.

After Glow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve,to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

MDA

I would like to recognize the efforts of my staff in supporting MDA. Yvonne, Whitney and Val were rounded up and held at Sedona Lounge to raise bail monies for the event. All funds collected by my staff are directly supporting local children affected by Muscular Dystrophy. I value my entire staff's commitment to community charities. Thank you Yvonne, Val and Whitney for doing time.

Giving Is always A Good Time

It always warms my heart when I receive thank you cards from donations made to charitable organizations. I am encouraging everyone to donate especially now to a charity of your choice; donations can be in the form of time, monies and/or gently used items. Many organizations are suffering due to the drop in donations.

Give Back a Smile-National Domestic Violence Awareness

At a time when Domestic violence is brought to the forefront of mainstream media with Rhianna and Chris Brown, I am honored to serve in fellowship with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Give Back a Smile program. Through the Give Back A Smile program, AACD members like me assist survivors by treating their dental injuries that were sustained from domestic violence, so that they may reclaim their smiles, their self-esteem and, ultimately, their lives.

How the program works:
Domestic violence survivors who have suffered dental injuries from abuse from a former intimate partner or spouse can contact GBAS toll-free at: 800.773.GBAS (4227)
Survivors must make an appointment with a counselor, domestic violence advocate, social worker or therapist to complete the advocate section of the GBAS application.
GBAS conducts the initial review of the application however the dentist has the final say as to the eligibility of the applicant.
If eligible, the AACD connects the survivor with a local GBAS volunteer who provides treatment at no charge to the recipient.

Because more than five million people are affected by domestic violence every year in the United States and Canada, there is clearly a need for a program like Give Back A Smile to help survivors rejuvenate their lives through the caring hands of a local dentist.
In July 2001, the AACD was one of only eight organizations in the world to receive the Award of Excellence and the prestigious Associations Advance America Summit Award for its GBAS program. The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), of Washington, D.C, sponsors this yearly national competition to recognize the charitable organizations that make the most effort to advance American society.

For complete details about the Give Back A Smile program, visit http://www.givebackasmile.com/ or call toll-free: 800.543.9220. Those interested in finding help with the Give Back A Smile program can also visit the Web site, call the National Hotline: 800.773.GBAS, or send an e-mail to givebackasmile@aacd.com.
